Mabel for electricians
Board off when the phone goes? Mabel texts them back and books the job.
When a call rings out, Mabel texts the caller straight away with a link to book, or they just reply, and Mabel asks what the job is, takes the postcode and the house number, and offers a time that is free in your calendar. You get a text with the booking and confirm it once the power's back on.

Faults, small jobs and quote visits
An electrician's calls are a mix: a fault that needs someone today, a socket or a light fitting for next week, a quote visit for a rewire or an EV charger, an EICR for a landlord. They tend to come in while you're in a loft or have a board off, which is exactly when you can't answer.
Mabel books each one for the right length of time. A socket replaced might be half an hour, an EICR three hours, an EV charger fitted six. You set the times once at set-up and Mabel uses them every time it looks for a free slot.
Notifiable work and your scheme
Electrical work that needs a registered person, such as new circuits, rewires and consumer units, is only offered by accounts with a certifying body. Add your NICEIC, NAPIT or other scheme registration when you get approved, and we check it by hand, with your photo ID and your insurance, before your Mabel number goes live. Without one, a customer asking for that work is told:
That needs a registered engineer, so we can't book it for this business.
A photo of the board
Switch on photos in Settings and the customer can send a picture with their booking: the consumer unit, the scorched socket, the fitting they want replaced. You know what you're walking into before you get there. Photos are checked before you see them.

On the form they enter their postcode and pick their address from the list; by text, Mabel asks for a few words about the job, the postcode and the house number. Either way they choose a time that is free in your calendar, and the booking is read back for them to check. You get a text with the job, and you confirm it.

Urgent words
If a customer's text uses one of your urgent words, Mabel texts you straight away with what they wrote, and tells them you know. The booking carries on as normal. A new account for electricians starts with these words, and you can change them:
- gas smell
- smell gas
- carbon monoxide
- sparks
- burning smell
- smoke
- no power
- shock
- tripping
- fuse box hot
- exposed wires
The customer reads:
This sounds urgent, so we've let Sean know straight away, and you'll get a call back as soon as possible.
Add an emergency number in Settings and Mabel gives them that as well. Your own mobile number is never given out.
Questions from electricians
Will it give the customer a price?
No. Mabel doesn't quote prices or promise anything you haven't set up. It takes the job, a few words about it, the address and a time, and you take it from there.
I'm on a site all week. Can Mabel book around that?
Yes. Put the site days in your calendar as jobs or time off, or in a connected Google or iPhone calendar with blocking switched on, and Mabel won't offer those times. It only offers what is free inside your working hours.
Do I need a new phone number?
You get a Mabel number and divert your mobile to it, so calls you don't answer go to Mabel instead of voicemail. The divert is one dial code and takes a few minutes. Some networks charge for diverted calls, so check yours.
What happens with a withheld number?
Mabel can't text a withheld number, so the caller is asked to text your number or ring back from a number it can see.
What does it cost?
Free while we launch. No card, no contract. If that ever changes you hear from us by email first, and you can leave at any time.
