The texts Mabel really sends. Sarah rings at 2:47 one afternoon while you are under a floor. The call goes to Mabel, Sarah gets a text with a link to book, and by 2:51 the job is in your calendar for you to confirm.

From missed call to five stars, in five steps.

1

A call rings out. Mabel texts back.

Within seconds the caller has a link to book, or they can just reply. Nobody talks to a robot.

Built for your trade

The same problem, whatever is on the side of the van.

Heating & gas engineers

September to February is when you make your year, and it is also when you miss the most calls. Mabel answers while your hands are in the casing.

  • Books around the jobs already in your calendar
  • Takes the fault, address and postcode
  • Busiest season covered, no extra cost

Plumbers

Leaks do not wait. Whoever picks up first gets the job, and most of the time that is not the person already under a sink.

  • Texts back straight away, not this evening
  • Sorts emergencies from routine work
  • Booked in before they ring round

Electricians

Board off, gloves on, phone in the van. Mabel texts them back, gets the fault and the address, and puts it in a slot that is free in your Mabel calendar.

  • No calling people back at nine at night
  • Takes the address, postcode first
  • Fits around travel time between jobs

Questions

Let’s get a few things straight.

What does my customer hear?

One short spoken message: you are on a job and a text is on its way. Then they book from the link in the text, or by replying, in the words you can read on this page. A landline is told you will call back, and a withheld number is asked to text from one Mabel can see. Nobody is stuck talking to a machine about their boiler.

Is this AI? Can it make things up?

Not in the conversation. Most services in this market are AI voice agents, which can invent a time you are not free or agree to work you do not do. Mabel's booking questions are fixed and tested: the same questions, in the same order, every time, and only times that are free in your calendar. She does not quote prices or promise anything you have not set up. The one place a model is used is checking the photos customers send, before you see them.

What if it books a job I cannot make?

Mabel only offers times that are free in your calendar: inside your working hours, with your travel time to and from each job, and under your cap for the day. Connect Google Calendar, or your iPhone calendar in the app, and switch on blocking, and the times you are busy there are kept clear too. Add your time off in Mabel and those days are kept clear, and UK bank holidays are blocked unless you choose to work them.

Do I need a new phone number?

You get a Mabel number, and you divert your mobile to it so unanswered calls land with Mabel instead of voicemail. With the usual setting your phone still rings first and Mabel only gets the calls you miss; if you choose Straight away, every call goes to Mabel. The divert is a few dial codes on your phone and takes a few minutes. On some plans your network charges for diverted calls, so check yours.

What if a customer would rather speak to a person?

Then they will ring back, or you will call them once you are off the tools. Mabel is there to stop the ones you would otherwise have lost entirely, not to keep people away from you.

How long does setup take?

About fifteen minutes of your time: your working hours, the jobs you do most often and how long each takes, then the divert on your mobile. Before your number goes live we check your photo ID, your insurance and your certificate if your trade has one, by hand, within 2 working days.

Does it work for my trade?

Almost certainly. Mabel does not need to understand the work itself, only your hours, your travel time and your common jobs. Heating engineers, plumbers and electricians are who it is built around, but it works for any trade that books visits.

What does it cost, and am I tied in?

Free while we launch. No card, no contract. If that ever changes you hear from us by email first, and you can leave at any time.

Is there a limit on texts or calls?

No per-text or per-call charges, and no monthly cap on customers, texts or calls. The one limit is a flood guard: if a single number sends far more texts than any booking needs, Mabel stops replying to that number and leaves it with you. Their messages still show in your Messages.

Who owns my customers, and what if I leave?

Your customers are yours. We never sell their details or share them with another trade, and you can download your customers, jobs and messages from Settings at any time. If you close your account, download them first, because afterwards we delete them. The detail is in our Privacy policy.
